91É«ÇéƬ Community Board Meeting (5 June 2025) held at the Neuadd Reichel, 91É«ÇéƬ. In attendance: Representatives from the following bodies/institutions attended the meeting: 91É«ÇéƬ; Cyngor Gwynedd Council, Adra, 91É«ÇéƬ City Council, Storiel, 91É«ÇéƬ Maritime Learning Centre, Menter Iaith 91É«ÇéƬ, Parc Cenedlaethol Eryri, Gisda, Cyngor Ynys Mon, Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, North Wales Regional Equality Network (NWREN), North Wales Africa Society.

Discussion matters: With Iwan Williams chairing, the following presentations were given; Dr Martin Hanks, on behalf of 91É«ÇéƬ City Council, presented an update on several projects centred around the City’s 1500th celebration including the recent VE Day celebrations. Catrin Jones, on behalf of the Community Cohesion Team (North West Wales) presented an update on their work within our local communities. Danielle Williams, Equality Officer 91É«ÇéƬ, presented an update on the University’s recent Bronze Award Race Equality Charter. Mya Tibbs, on behalf of the Students Union Volunteering, provided an overview of the various projects supported by Students during the current academic year. On behalf of Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, Brian Laing provided a summary of the ‘Well North Wales’ initiative. Further updates were received (in writing) from Parc Genedlaethol Eryri, Confucius Institute and Mantell Gwynedd.

An update from the Community Engagement team was received, including an update on the various community events taking place over the coming weeks including; the annual Treborth Draig Beats Festival, the Ecoamgueddfa Archaeological Festival and Grŵp Llandrillo Menai’s Community Day and the University’s presence at the National Eisteddfod in Wrexham during the Summer. An update was provided on the Community Fund with a further four projects having been supported this year. The 91É«ÇéƬ City Council Student Bursary scheme have awarded four students bursaries following a rigorous application process, the civic engagement team will update the Board as these projects develop over the coming months.

Discussion matters: With Gwenan Hine chairing, the following presentations were given; Lina Davitt, on behalf of the Confucius Institute provided an overview of the work of the Institute specifically within the community. Dr Martin Hanks, on behalf of Banogr City Council, presented several projects to the Board as part of the 1500th birthday celebrations. On behalf of Ecoamgueddfa, Dr Einir Young provided an overview of the project based down on the Llyn Peninsula. Further updates were received (in writing) by Menter Iath 91É«ÇéƬ, Parc Genedlaethol Eryri, CVSC, Conwy Bay Oyster Bay project, and Gisda.

An update from the Community Engagement team was received, including an update on the History Festival later this year, in partnership with 91É«ÇéƬ City Council. An update on the Community Fund was received following the fourth call earlier in the year, a further four projects have been supported by the fund this year. Over the next few weeks, the University will launch the 91É«ÇéƬ City Council Student Bursary, a scheme which aims to strengthen the link between academic research undertaken at 91É«ÇéƬ and 91É«ÇéƬ City Council's strategic decision-making.

In attendance: Representatives from the following bodies/institutions attended the meeting: 91É«ÇéƬ; Cyngor Gwynedd Council; Adra; Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, North Wales Regional Equality Network (NWREN), 91É«ÇéƬ City Council, Storiel, 91É«ÇéƬ Cathedral, 91É«ÇéƬ Maritime Learning Centre, North Wales Africa Society (NWAS), Mantell Gwynedd, Menter Iaith 91É«ÇéƬ, Grŵp Llandrillo Menai.

Discussion matters: With Professor Andrew Edwards chairing, the following presentations were given: Alan Edwards, on behalf of the Student Services team, provided an overview of the International Student journey. Danielle Williams, 91É«ÇéƬ Equalities Officer, presented an update on the progress of the University’s Race Equality Charter application. Darren Morley introduced the 91É«ÇéƬ Legal Advice Clinic which opens later this month. Dr Nia Jones, on behalf of the North Wales Medical School, provided an overview of the Medical School to the group. Further updates were received from 91É«ÇéƬ Maritime Learning Centre, North Wales Africa Society and Mantell Gwynedd.

An update from the Community Engagement team was received, including the success at the National Eisteddfod and the Royal Welsh Show. It was noted that the final IWA event took place on 3 October in Pontio and the University will now start to plan their own events early next year. The Community Fund is expected to be launched in the coming weeks and a new regional partnership, supported by MEDR, will see 91É«ÇéƬ collaborate with Wrexham University, Grŵp Llandrillo Menai and Coleg Cambria on a series of activities over the next 12 months.

An update from the Community Engagement team was received, including the success at the recent Urdd Eisteddfod in Meifod and the forthcoming plans for the National Eisteddfod and Royal Welsh Show. The team are preparing for the final IWA event which will take place on 3 October in Pontio and the Community Fund is expected to be launched early in the 2024/25 academic year.

Discussion matters: With Professor Andrew Edwards chairing, the following matters were discussed; an overview of Ty Gwyrddfai and how the facility is supporting local communities was given by the Director Customer and Communities at Adra; an update on the work being undertaken by Mantell Gwynedd; a presentation from Dr Marcel Ferrand (Student Support Manager), a recipient of the Civic Engagement Community Collaboration Fund, on how the funds were used to arrange two beach clean-up events with a group of International Students; an update from the Civic Mission team, including the Community Fund, the Community Day and the various events that the team have attended over the summer months.
