And we'd just like to say congratulations on receiving your offer.

We hope that you'll be able to come and visit us to see exactly what 91ɫ��Ƭ can offer you for pharmacology and pharmacy.

We get to know our students really well. We provide an amazing level of support, both in terms of academic growth and personal development.

And the location of the university is fantastic. We've got mountains,we've got sea. There's so much for students to do.

As well as that we have a number of different societies that you can join and it is really an amazing environment.

What’s a fun fact about you that students might not know?
I write cryptic crosswords and thoroughly enjoy solving published crosswords!

What’s your favourite part of your job?
Watching students develop as individuals and grow in confidence as they progress in their Pharmacy degree. Even better is meeting them again once they’re practising pharmacists and listening to stories of how their careers have developed.

What’s a common question students ask you?
“Is that going to be in the exam?” … and they get the same answer: “It might be!”

What’s your favourite part of your job?
Getting to talk about pharmacology all day! I fell completely in love with the subject within a couple of months of starting my own undergraduate degree in pharmacology many years ago, and I decided then that I wanted to spend my life teaching other people about it, and I feel very lucky that I can.

What do you love most about teaching?
Being able to support the students through what can sometimes be a difficult time as they adapt to life at Uni. I get a huge amount of satisfaction from seeing students grow, gain confidence, and realise their potential.

What’s a fun fact about you that students might not know?
I have pet cockroaches!

What’s the best piece of advice you ever received?
Believe in your abilities and ensure you always ask the staff for support (too many students sit in silences struggling with their studies), reaching out for support is the most important aspect of being a successful student.

What’s a fun fact about you that students might not know?
I am a ex-international Lacrosse player, I am related to Kylie Minogue, and am an avid Warhammer 40k player (and currently am the 40k officer for Deeside Defender Gaming Club).

What do you love most about teaching?
There are many aspects, some examples include having engaging discussions with students on new scientific discoveries and seeing students develop their understanding over the years of study.

What’s your favourite part of your job?
I love connecting with students and seeing them grow from first-year nerves to confident thinkers. There’s something incredibly rewarding about witnessing those “aha!” moments when challenging concepts suddenly make sense, and I’m honoured to be both a guide and cheerleader on their academic journeys. Watching students build confidence, ask deeper questions, and make connections they hadn’t considered is priceless.

What’s a fun fact about you that students might not know?
I'm easily distracted by animals—if there's a furry, feathered, or even scaly creature nearby, you’ve probably lost me! If I weren’t

What’s your favourite part of your job?
I love seeing students develop both academically and personally during their time with us. Watching them make connections between complex concepts and real-world applications, particularly in biomedical science, is incredibly rewarding.

How would you describe 91ɫ��Ƭ in three words?
Historic, welcoming, inspiring.

What’s a fun fact about you that students might not know?
Outside of academia, I love to brew mead!

What’s one book or resource you always recommend to students?
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. It’s an essential read for understanding the human stories behind scientific discoveries and the ethical complexities in biomedical research.

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand you may have lots of questions about becoming a student of Pharmacy or Pharmacology at 91ɫ��Ƭ so we've compiled the answers to the most frequently asked questions below.

You will receive your timetable during Welcome Week. Welcome week for 2025 starts on the 22nd of September. The full list of term dates can be found on the University website.

New students will be sent lots of information about Welcome Week and the arrival process before the beginning of term. During Welcome Week there will be plenty of people - staff and students - to guide you. These include Peer Guides, current students who volunteer to help new students to help during the settling-in process. Peer Guides are familiar, friendly faces in the early stages of university life.

Every student at 91ɫ��Ƭ is also assigned a Personal Tutor, an Academic Staff member who provides personalised academic support and guidance. Your Personal Tutor will meet with you throughout the year to review your grades, discuss employability, and direct you to appropriate student services when needed. They are also responsible for providing academic references for you.

Personal Tutors are dedicated to helping you succeed academically and personally. They can assist with a wide range of issues, from academic challenges to career planning. In addition to regular meetings, you can reach out to your tutor whenever you need extra support or advice.

We place a high priority on caring and supporting our students and are well placed to do so due to the smaller teaching groups. As well as the support you will receive from your academic team, the university’s student services department offers a range of assistance to ensure that you thrive during your time with us.

There are lots of arranged activities during Welcome Week that provide opportunities for you to meet and get to know other students on your course. These include events led by the course leads, such as quizzes.

At 91ɫ��Ƭ we also have a wide range of student societies and clubs helping you meet new people and explore new and existing interests.

The Foundation Year (Pharmacology) or Preparatory Year (Pharmacy) is designed to prepare students for all of our undergraduate degree programmes. It is an ideal course if you do not currently have the necessary scientific background to enter our undergraduate programmes.

It provides the basic, but essential understanding of biological and chemical principles that underpin the field.

Welsh-speaking students can complete parts of their degree through the medium of Welsh. Several modules across in each include Welsh-language options. Additionally, any assignment submitted can be written in either English or Welsh, and bursaries are available for students who choose to study part of their degree in Welsh.

Students learning in Welsh benefit from smaller class sizes, excellent peer support, and a Welsh-speaking Personal Tutor. There is also a hall of residence specifically for Welsh speakers and learners, providing a natural Welsh-speaking environment outside of class.

During Welcome Week we’ll have introductory sessions to get everyone together and help them settle in at 91ɫ��Ƭ. At the beginning of your first week at 91ɫ��Ƭ, a staff member will be assigned as your personal tutor to ensure your welfare is maintained and to provide pastoral check-ins at least three times a year (once per semester). If your first language is Welsh, we will strive to pair you with a Welsh-speaking personal tutor to facilitate comfortable communication in your native language.

We’ll have Peer Guides to help you in Welcome Week who are current students who have volunteered and have been trained to help new students settle in. They’ll help you make friends through various social events, show you around the town and the University, and give you information and tips about student life.

As well as the support you will receive from your academic team, the university’s student services department offers a range of assistance to ensure that you thrive during your time with us.

Joining us through Clearing or Extra?

You’re in good company. Lots of students join us this way each year and go on to have an amazing experience. Clearing might happen quickly, but that doesn’t mean you’re behind. You’ve still got plenty of time to get everything sorted, from booking accommodation to making friends and even visiting the campus.

Although our applicant days were in the Spring there's still an opportunity for you to come and visit us at 91ɫ��Ƭ to see if it feels like the right fit for you. We have an open day on Sunday the 17th of August where late applicants are welcome to visit among visitors for the next cycle. Just make sure you let our staff know you're applying for this September so they can give you the most relevant information.

Once you've received your offer in UCAS you can join other applicants and be part of our 91ɫ��Ƭ student community even before arriving! Register for our Campus Connect app where you can ask questions, chat with current students and make friends with other applicants on your course and in your chosen accommodation. Check your emails for your 91ɫ��Ƭ reference number, you'll need this when you register.

The sooner that you confirm that you are taking up your Clearing place at 91ɫ��Ƭ the sooner you can make your halls application.

If you apply through Clearing for a course that's based at our 91ɫ��Ƭ campus, you are guaranteed a place in University accommodation as long as you choose 91ɫ��Ƭ through UCAS by Thursday, 28 August, and book your place in halls by Monday, 1 September. When you’ve selected 91ɫ��Ƭ as your Clearing choice on UCAS, and we have processed and formally confirmed your place via UCAS, you will be sent an e-mail with details of how to make an application for a place in University halls of residence. It will usually take 24–48 hours for the automatic halls application e-mail to be generated and sent to you.
