Overview

Lectures will introduce you to the main concepts in research methods and statistics using real-world examples of research in practice. Seminars may involve group work and/or independent work to apply the knowledge gained in the lectures to the collection and analysis of research data.

Seminars may involve group work and/or independent work to apply the knowledge gained in the lectures to the collection and analysis of research data.

Supervision will be provided to guide you on the development of the research proposal. This includes individual meetings with the supervisor and time spent by the supervisor providing feedback on drafts. Supervision meetings may be held in person or online.

160hrs of independent study is recommended to complete associated readings and produce assessments

Assessment Strategy

-threshold (C)- To achieve a ‘pass’ on the module’ the student will be required to demonstrate some knowledge of different methods and methodology in research, and some awareness of how research can inform leadership and management change.

-good (B)- To achieve a ‘good pass’ the student will be required to demonstrate good knowledge of different methods and methodology in research, and good awareness of how research can inform leadership and management change.

-excellent (A)- To achieve an excellent pass, the student will be required to demonstrate a high level of knowledge of different methods and methodology in research, and excellent awareness of how research can inform leadership and management change.

Learning Outcomes

• Apply different methods and methodology to a research study, including applied research in practical settings.

• Critically appraise research risks within the bounds of appropriate ethical guidelines.

• Critically assess how research can inform leadership and management change by interpreting data to draw conclusions for organisational and system improvement.

• Generate an original research question with a critical understanding of how data can be gathered and analysed.
